The Most Epic of Wars

The sequel to the massive-scale tactical shooter, ArmA2, is inbound for a summer 2012 release according to an official press release by developers Bohemia Interactive.

Like its predecessors, ArmA3?will be big and sandboxy, with intense multiplayer and versatile mod support. Unlike the latest iterations of its counterpart, Operation Flashpoint, it will retain its PC exclusivity.

What else do we know? According to the developers, ArmA3?will take place after the events of the second game, with Western Europe/NATO pushed to the brink after a vicious onslaught of Eastern armies. Taking on the role of Cpt. Scott Miller, the player will lead an elite group of soldiers through missions across an unnamed Mediterranean island with the intent of capturing some sort of military secret.

The official site also boasts the following new features:

  • Single-Player Campaign:?Evolve from lone prey into a military commander in the open-ended & story-driven campaign.
  • Vehicles & Weapons:?Control a multitude of aircraft, vehicles, and ships with the accurate simulation, shoot with anything from pistols to the sophisticated weapon platforms.
  • Customizable Soldier Load:?Choose your uniform, assemble your weapon kit, change your loadout, get encumbered.
  • Physical simulation & improved animations:?Take advantage of PhysX? supporting the vehicle simulation, in-game interactions, and the revamped animation system.
  • Rich & authentic environment:?Explore the unsurpassed modern ground combat experience set on the authentic Mediterranean island modeled from the real geographic data.
  • Multiplayer Gameplay:?Challenge both cooperative & competitive scenarios with full support of dedicated servers for both Windows and Linux.
  • Completely Extensible & Moddable:?Design & create countless customizable scenarios using the intuitive & easy-to-use mission editor.

ArmA?fans needn?t worry about a hasty upgrade to their PCs a month or so before release. Being spiffing chaps, Bohemia Interactive have also released the required system specifications:

  • Operating system: Windows 7 / Vista
  • Processor:?Intel Core i5?or AMD Athlon Phenom X4 or faster
  • Memory: 2 GB
  • Video card:?Nvidia Geforce?GTX 260 or ATI Radeon HD 5770 with Shader Model 3 and 896 MB VRAM, or faster
  • DVD: Dual Layer compatible
  • Hard disk: 15 GB free space
  • DirectX: 10

Hefty requirements? Perhaps. But, when you take a look at the icing on the cake of this tasty new game, the nine released screenshots, you?ll understand why splashing out on a new processor and GPU will be well worth it:
