When I was in my freshman year of college, I lived at home and drove myself back and forth to school.? It was about a half hour's drive and the parking near the campus was unbelievably annoying.? If you didn't find a spot near the school (they had STRICT parking rules and gave out their own school issued parking tickets!), you had to drive a few blocks down to a designated parking lot and wait for a shuttle to take you to campus.? I hated having to take the shuttle because it meant that you were at the mercy of their schedule and could end up late to class.
I always got myself up earlier so I could find that precious parking spot near school around 7 AM for an 8 AM class.? Since I'd end up with at about an hour wait until class started, I began hitting the vending machine in the lounge.? It had Mountain Dew.?? I just loved the taste of citrus mixed with caffeine; it helped me perk up in the morning.? (I have never been a morning person)
This became a morning habit.? While the other ed majors came in with their steaming coffee, I couldn't stand the stuff (I love the smell of coffee but not the taste).? I always brought Mountain Dew to my first class.? And sometimes to those late evening classes too, since I would just wait around the library until my class started rather than driving back home.
The habit stuck and I still start off my morning with Mountain Dew.? I have fond memories of my students bringing me Mountain Dew as gifts for teacher appreciation (I've even been blamed for my former student's own Dew addiction!).??
