A new Parliament panel will facilitate long-delayed oil legislation, as leaders struggle to overcome a crippling political crisis.

BAGHDAD - Parliament has convened the first meeting of a special committee designed to reach a compromise on long-delayed oil legislation ? a glimmer of potential progress amidst one of Iraq's worst political crises since 2003.
The committee's goal is to "come up with unified recommendations or a majority agreement for the purpose of proceeding with legislation," according to an Aug. 6 order from Speaker of Parliament Usama Nujaifi, a member of the Iraqiya political bloc.
